Ben Lummis, Managing Director of Massachusetts ELT Initiative                                                                                                                                             ben@mass2020.org

Ben Lummis is the Managing Director of the Massachusetts ELT Initiative at Massachusetts 2020. Currently he is leading the development of a comprehensive public policy for creating a longer school day. This policy work focuses on developing a detailed policy for how to implement and finance a longer school day in Massachusetts.

Prior to joining Massachusetts 2020, Ben worked at the Center for Collaborative Education where he was the director of Turning Points, the nationally recognized middle school improvement model. At Turning Points, Ben was responsible for the quality and implementation of Turning Points’ services to schools and for the growth of its national network of schools and regional centers.

Ben taught middle school English in Cambridge and Needham, and began his career in education as an instructor for Outward Bound, the internationally known outdoor education school. He has also worked in Washington, DC as a member of Senator Edward Kennedy’s staff, and as an analyst for the Kettering Foundation, which works to make fundamental changes in how democratic politics are practiced.

Ben received his master’s in teaching from Tufts University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan. Ben currently lives in Cambridge, MA with his wife and twins.
