Beth Herbert, MPA, is the Expanded Learning Time Program Manager at Massachusetts 2020.  She is responsible for assisting the Expanded Learning Time Program Director in providing technical assistance to the 26 Massachusetts schools in 12 districts that are expanding their school day and/or year by 300 hours for the 2008-2009 school year.  Beth works directly with districts in their first, second, and third year of implementation, supporting their development as they pave the way nationally through their redesign efforts.  She also works closely with the Expanded Learning Time Director of Planning in leading the effort to assist districts who are interested in exploring expanded time within their school(s). She helps to provide guidance to these districts through regional coaching sessions and consulting, as they explore the process and consider expanding their calendar for implementation in fall of 2009 and fall of 2010.

Prior to joining Massachusetts 2020, Beth worked as a grant writer and development associate for North Cambridge Catholic High School (NCC), helping to keep their Corporate Work Study Program afloat.  Beth attended Northeastern University while working at NCC, earning a Master’s in Public Administration with an education policy focus.  Prior to attending graduate school, Beth worked as a high school English teacher in the Commonwealth, which is where her strong desire for education reform originates.  Before becoming involved in public education, Beth worked as a research assistant at Harvard University in the President’s Office, reporting to the Associate Vice President of Higher Education Policy.  Beth has worked in Education for 10 years.

Beth’s degrees are from Northeastern University (MPA), New York University (MA), and Boston College (BA).  She currently lives in Arlington, MA where she serves as a Town Meeting Member and votes on local laws impacting Arlington.
