ELT Partnerships Forum

"I'm leaving this forum with lots to think about and new energy for this work."

What roles do community partnerships play in an expanded school day? How do community partnerships enhance the experiences of students, teachers, families, and partnering organizations? On March 18th, Massachusetts 2020 convened representatives from the 26 Expanded Learning Time schools and 35 of their community partners - arts and cultural institutions, afterschool and youth development programs, and mental health agencies - to explore these questions. Throughout the day participants had opportunities to network, share best practices and participate in workshops, each featuring promising partnerships across the Massachusetts ELT network. Time to Learn: The 4th Annual Expanded Learning Time Summit

The 4th Annual Expanded Learning Time (ELT) Summit was a huge success! Over 650 school and union leaders, community organizations, elected officials, and policymakers from across the Commonwealth and across the nation came together at the Summit to explore issues of quality, impact and results that drive the ELT Initiative and explore the lessons and accomplishments ELT has experienced since its launch in 2005.

The Summit featured remarks from Jon Schnur, Education Advisor to the Obama for President Campaign, and Jonah Edelman, Executive Director of Stand for Children, both of whom inspired and motivated the audience to continue the momentum of the Expanded Learning Time Initiative. Massachusetts Secretary of Education Paul Reville, Representative Patricia Haddad (D-Somerset), Co-Chairwoman of the Joint Committee of Education, and Commissioner of the Department of Elementary & Secondary Education Mitchell Chester all offered their praise and encouragement to ELT schools for their commitment to this innovative and important work in challenging times.

Additionally, the ELT Summit included 28 breakout sessions that highlighted the opportunities that additional time presents for schools and the impact that the new day is having on schools and students.

Time to Learn: 4th Annual ELT Summit was co-hosted by Massachusetts 2020 and the Department of Elementary & Secondary Education and was sponsored by Bank of America, The Eli & Edythe Broad Foundation and the Nellie Mae Education Foundation.
