ELT Initiative

Redesigning a school around an expanded schedule can be a tremendous opportunity to enhance the school’s capacity to educate students. This section of the Planning Guide is designed to help you decide if your school and community want to consider expanding the school day or school year and assist you in taking the initial steps to develop an Expanded Learning Time implementation plan.

Before launching a planning and redesign process, Massachusetts 2020 recommends that schools familiarize themselves with the Expanded Learning Time Initiative by reviewing how some schools have implemented expanded time. The following documents provide a helpful overview of the initiative and the changes schools make when they expand time. In addition, they can assist you in deciding whether to go forward.
