Once the schedule is developed, the implementation team should consider any additional staffing arrangements that may be needed to ensure the entire educational program runs safely and effectively:
- Consider whether additional teachers will need to be hired, as well as paraprofessionals, nurses, administrative assistants, security, custodians, and other personnel.
- If all teachers in the school are not working the additional hours, what agreements need to be worked out with each teacher regarding the hours they will work during the expanded day and their specific responsibilities.
- If your school is hiring an ELT Coordinator to oversee new program components and partnerships, your school will need to begin recruiting and hiring for this position.
- In some cases schools may need to consider staffing needs associated with Special Education students, such as additional certified Special Education teachers, instructional aides or paraprofessionals.
- If teachers plan to opt out of the school and transfer to another school in the district rather than work the expanded day (if this is an option in the labor agreement), a process and timeline will need to be worked out for this to occur.
