Public Policy“Expanded learning time is a key component for the next phase of education reform in Massachusetts. Educators need more time to deliver the academic and enrichment instruction necessary to develop the whole child, as we build a world-class education system that prepares students for success in a global 21st-century economy.” - Massachusetts Governor Deval L. PatrickMassachusetts 2020 is the leading advocate for Expanded Learning Time Initiative in the Commonwealth. As a policy and advocacy organization, Massachusetts 2020 identified the need for an expansion of learning time in 2004 as a way to close the growing achievement gap and drafted the initial proposal after conversations with key stakeholders across the Commonwealth. With momentum growing for the Expanded Learning Time Initiative in Massachusetts, Massachusetts 2020’s role remains that of a strong advocate and collaborator among the Legislature, Administration, key coalitions, stakeholders, ELT Schools and districts. As a provider of technical assistance to implementing and planning schools, Massachusetts 2020 is able to share first-hand knowledge and lessons learned with policymakers to shape and adapt policy as it is implemented year-to-year. |
